Aluminum Profile Production and Features
1. Production Process
- The formation of aluminum profiles involves three main processes: melting, extrusion, and surface treatment. Aluminum ingots or rods (length 8–12 m, diameters D90–D178 mm) are the raw materials, and 6063 alloy is the most commonly used grade in China.
- Melting: This is the first step in aluminum production. It includes batching, smelting, and casting to produce round cast rods with stable composition and structure.
- Extrusion: The extruder pushes the heated round cast rod through a specially designed mold to form the required cross-sectional shape. During extrusion, air-cooled quenching and artificial aging are used to enhance the alloy's strength and performance.
- Surface Treatment: The surface is treated mainly by anodizing, which improves corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and appearance. The result is a smooth, uniform surface with finishes such as matte, bright, or colored (silver, black, bronze, gold, stainless steel tone).
2. Oxidation and Coloring Process
- To improve surface durability, extruded aluminum profiles undergo anodizing through three steps:
- Surface Pretreatment: Chemical or physical cleaning removes surface impurities, ensuring a clean base for film formation.
- Anodizing: A dense, porous Al₂O₃ film is formed under controlled conditions, providing strong corrosion and wear resistance.
- Sealing: The pores of the oxide film are sealed to enhance resistance to pollution and corrosion. Before sealing, metal salts can be added to achieve different surface colors.
3. Processing Performance
- Good Formability: The extrusion process allows aluminum profiles to be shaped into various complex forms to meet design requirements.
- Easy Processing: Cutting, drilling, and welding are easy to perform, enabling smooth assembly with other materials or parts.
- Surface Finishing Options: Anodizing, spraying, and electrophoresis treatments not only enhance the look but also improve durability and corrosion resistance.
4. Design and Application
- Flexible Design: Aluminum profiles can be made in many shapes, giving designers freedom to create innovative structures and appearances.
- Easy Assembly: Special connectors make installation fast and efficient, improving overall productivity.
- High Recyclability: Aluminum is 100% recyclable. After use, profiles can be reused without losing performance, supporting sustainable and eco-friendly construction practices.
